Roman Stanek moves up two spots on the Feature Race podium at Spa

Roman Stanek has been handed the victory in the Formula 2 Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps after Alex Dunne received a post-race time penalty and Arvid Lindblad was disqualified following technical checks.

The decisions made by the stewards reshuffled the order following an intense battle under tricky wet-weather conditions.

Dunne led from start to finish but came under investigation by the stewards for allegedly failing to engage the start set-up procedure at the beginning of the formation lap.

He was deemed guilty of the infringement and handed a 10-second time penalty, bumping him down the order to 10th.

A document released by the FIA stated: “According to the Report of the Technical Delegate, the data from Car 17 shows that the driver did not engage the start set-up procedure for the formation lap as required by the F2 2025 System User Manual.

“The team manager stated that the race director had announced that the formation laps will be behind the Safety Car and the start of the Race will be rolling start.

“Based on this information, they had decided not to activate the set-up procedure. The driver said that he had asked the team for confirmation, and team told him not to engage the
start set-up procedure.

“Having considered the matter extensively, the Stewards determined that Car 17 was in breach of Article 1.6.1 of the FIA Formula 2 Technical Regulations and Article 11.15 of the F2 2025 System User Manual, and impose a 10 second time penalty in accordance with the 2025 FIA F2 penalty guidelines.”

Lindblad disqualified over technical breach as Fornaroli claims F2 championship lead

Lindblad would have taken the Feature Race victory, but he was punished for having too low tyre pressures in all four tyres.

A document stated: “The Team accepted the FIA Technical Delegate’s measurements and acknowledged that it followed that Article 10.4.3 of the Technical Regulations had been breached in this case.

“The Team Representative also stated that he was present during the tyre checking and had no objections with the measurements. Having considered the matter extensively, the Stewards determined that Car 4 was found to be technically non-conformant with the F2 Technical Regulations, and, consistent with the established precedent, disqualify Car 4 from Race 2.”

Stanek claimed the second victory of his F2 career, while Ritomo Miyata secured his maiden podium in the series with an impressive drive to second place.

Luke Browning completed the podium amid the post-race chaos, rewarded for a strong charge through the field.

The Hitech driver started 12th on the grid and secured his sixth podium of the season, further boosting his championship hopes.

The final classification saw several drivers promoted due to the penalties, including Leonardo Fornaroli, who moved up to fifth.

That result was enough to hand the Italian the championship lead by just three points over Richard Verschoor.

Both Trident’s race winner Richard Verschoor and team-mate Roman Stanek have been disqualified from Saudi Arabia’s Formula 2 Sprint race after a technical breach.

F2 issued a report which read that: “The Trident #22 and #23 cars were found to have had an incorrect throttle pedal progressivity map installed prior to the race which was not in compliance with Article 8.2.6 of the Technical Regulations.”

As a result, Verschoor has been stripped of his victory, promoting MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger to first place and Hitech’s Paul Aron to second.

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Enzo Fittipaldi can now add a podium result to his records after being promoted to third, with Zane Maloney’s fine drive from 15th on the grid now resulting in a fourth-place finish.

DAMS Jak Crawford, Prema’s Andrea Antonelli, Campos Racing’s Josep Maria Martí and Invicta’s Kush Maini complete the points-paying positions to eighth.

Stanek loses 10th spot and as a result Maini’s Invicta teammate and McLaren Development Driver Gabriel Bortoleto completes the new top-10.

The amended result means that Maloney now sits with 41 points at the top of the Drivers’ standings, with Aron on 28 points in second.

Martí lies third with 26 points and new race winner Hauger sits fourth in the standings with 16 points.

Verschoor and Stanek remain with zero points on the board.

Trident has confirmed that Roman Stanek will return with the team to embark upon his second season in Formula 2, leaving only one position to be filled on the 2024 grid.

Stanek moved across to Trident for his third campaign in Formula 3 in 2022, where he registered one victory, four podiums and two fastest places to place fifth overall.

The Czech driver then stepped up to the second tier last term with the team and classified 18th in the Drivers’ Championship after accruing 15 points from 26 rounds.

The announcement that Trident has retained Stanek to partner Richard Verschoor means the upcoming season’s roster is complete except for the second PHM Racing seat.

Trident Team Manager Giacomo Ricci is optimistic it has the ideal driving pairing as it bids to improve upon a 10th-place finish in last season’s Teams’ Championship.

“We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Roman Stanek, who has been part of our family for a long time and was able to provide winning results in the past,” Ricci said.

“We are certain that all the ingredients are there to do well and achieve increasingly ambitious goals together.

“The experience acquired in 2023 will prove pivotal to start the new season with the best conditions and maximum determination.”

Stanek spent the 2022 campaign with the Italian squad, competing for it in Formula 3. He took his first race win at the Imola Feature Race, and went on to score three further podiums during the season.

Trident Motorsport has announced the signing of Czech driver Roman Stanek for the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship.

The campaign will be Stanek’s third in the category, having raced for Charouz Racing System and Hitech Grand Prix in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

The 17-year-old’s best result in the series is two third place finishes, which he achieved last year.

“I am proud to be part of the Trident Motorsport line-up as it is a leading force among F3 teams,” Stanek said.

“I hope to bring in experience and speed to help the team defend its 2021 title.

“In my first two seasons in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, I’ve grown up constantly and I am sure that with Trident Motorsport we will have all the components needed to compete at a high level.”

Trident enters the 2022 season looking to retain the Teams’ Championship, having bested rivals Prema last year.

“We are proud to welcome a racer with such outstanding qualities like Roman Stanek,” said Team Manager Giacomo Ricci.

“Despite being only 17, Roman is in his third year in the category and will bring the right amount of experience and speed.

“That will allow the team to continue its winning tradition in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.

“Roman impressed the technical staff during the 2021 post-season test when he was constantly among the fastest drivers on the track.”

Stanek is the final driver to be announced by Trident for the upcoming season, joining Jonny Edgar and Zane Maloney at the Italian team.

Roman Stanek will remain in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2021, making the switch to Hitech GP after his first full season in the series last year.

The Czech driver was a late call-up to Charouz in 2020, completing the entire season with the team and scoring a best result of eighth at Monza.

Stanek will join Red Bull juniors Jak Crawford and Ayumu Iwasa at the team, who were both confirmed last week.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join Hitech in FIA F3 and Asian F3,” Stanek said.

“The Asian F3 season opener will get underway in a couple of weeks, so I am looking forward to getting back out in the car after a long break.

“I’m really excited to work with a new team and will be putting in the hard work for a successful season.”

Stanek’s step up to F3 last year came after he won the rookie title in the 2019 ADAC Formula 4 Championship, as well as finishing fifth in the Italian F4 series.

He will also compete in the 2021 Asian F3 Championship with Hitech, which is set to get underway in later this month at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

Hitech Team Principal Oliver Oakes said: “We are delighted to have Stanek on board as we embark on what we hope will be another successful season.

“We always look forward to working with new drivers, and Stanek has shown the talent required in FIA F3 and Asian F3.”

Roman Staněk is set to make his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship this weekend after being listed to compete for Charouz Racing System.

Staněk, who turned 16 in February, has just one year of single-seater competition under his belt, finishing fourth in the ADAC Formel 4 series.

He also competed in the Italian Formula 4 championship, finishing fifth overall, with one victory.

Staněk was set to race in the Formula Regional European Championship for Prema this year but it was recently announced that they had split, with W Series champion Jamie Chadwick taking his spot.

Instead Staněk is now set to replace ex-Red Bull junior Niko Kari at Charouz Racing System, which has close ties with the youngster.

Kari has been contacted by MotorsportWeek.com for a comment on the situation.

Charouz also has current Toyota Racing Series champion and Red Bull protégé Igor Fraga and David Schumacher, son of Ralf, as its drivers for 2020.

Formula 3, along with Formula 2, is set to race alongside Formula 1 at all eight events confirmed so far.
