Le Mans provided a brutal challenge for many teams at last weekend's 93rd running of the famous 24-hour endurance race

The 93rd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was a gruelling race for all 62 entries, as 14 cars failed to finish at the checkered flag.

With no wet weather this year to test the teams during the night, drivers faced the greater challenge of fatigue from behind the wheel.

On the other hand, the cars in the Hypercar, LMP2 and LMGT3 categories pushed the limits of mechanical and electronic reliability during the racing action.

Here, we list the retirements, non-classifications and the single disqualification – in chronological order – from the fourth FIA World Endurance Championship round.

Car – Laps / Racing time completed – Reason as applicable:

Note: racing time continued running for some despite being in the garage*

  • #88 Proton Competition Ford Mustang LMGT346 laps / 3 hours, 11 minutes, 36.30 seconds – Broken rear-left wheel nut caused the wheel to detach before the Ford’s spin into the Tertre Rouge tyre barrier.
  • #60 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG LMGT357 laps / 6 hours 5 minutes 02.685 seconds – Retired in the garage after a broken alternator belt damaged the oil line.
  • #95 United Autosports McLaren 720S LMGT3 Evo80 laps / 5 hours, 35 minutes, 58.499 seconds – Stopped behind the barrier on Mulsanne straight due to drivetrain-related mechanical failure impacting fuel delivery.
  • #46 WRT BMW M4 GT3 Evo156 laps / 11 hours, 2 minutes, 28.095 seconds – Technical issue affected the power and therefore power steering.
  • #31 WRT BMW M4 GT3 Evo168 laps / 13 hours, 17 minutes, 27.884 seconds – Hit a rabbit during the night-time.
  • #24 Nielsen Racing Oreca 07 LMP2 170 laps / 11 hours, 10 minutes, 29.565 seconds – Cem Bolukbasi crashed at Tertre Rouge (and released from the medical centre).
  • #101 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R Hypercar189 laps / 11 hours, 55 minutes, 38.240 seconds – Filipe Albuquerque parked at the second Mulsanne chicane following engine failure (the car had a new engine fitted in FP2).

Halfway point at Le Mans – 12 hours

  • #54 AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3192 laps / 14 hours, 4 minutes, 56.647 seconds – Cause unknown as of yet, though the car did not suffer a collision or overtly showcase physical signs of mechanical/electronic failure.
  • #18 IDEC Sport Oreca 07 LMP2 206 laps / 13 hours, 34 minutes, 12.511 seconds – Andre Lotterer stopped after the right-rear wheel detached into the second Mulsanne chicane on an outlap after a pit stop.
  • #311 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R Hypercar – 247 laps / 16 hours, 0 minutes, 31.169 seconds – Frederick Vesti lost power and retired, cause set to be investigated.
  • #78 Akkodis ASP Lexus RC F LMGT3 268 laps / 19 hours, 2 minutes, 41.151 seconds – Finn Gehristz spun the rear at the Porsche Curves entry, making rear-left contact with the tyre barrier before driving back to the pits.
  • # 28 IDEC Sport Oreca 07 LMP2308 laps / 20 hours, 18 minutes, 29.995 seconds – Job van Uitert went off at the Forest Esses and beached in gravel and retired, possibly due to further reliability woes preventing his continuation.
  • #59 United Autosports McLaren 720S LMGT3 Evo314 laps / 22 hours, 52 minutes, 42.255 seconds – They faced an alternator issue earlier on, but Gregoire Saucy’s car seemingly stopped working on the stretch after the Mulsanne Corner. They were non-classified after completing a minimum 75 per cent race distance of the winner.
  • #50 AF Corse Ferrari 499P Hypercar387 laps – Post-race disqualification (see here)

Genesis Magma Racing will enter the Hypercar category in the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship

Check out the angles on the Genesis Magma Racing orange and red livery adorned on their new GMR-001 Hypercar set to compete in 2026.

The global livery unveiling took place ahead of the New York International Auto Show, confirming the unique branding and appearance for the team.

Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis, said: “The GMR-001 Hypercar, like every race car, is a sculpture designed by the constraints of efficiency and performance, combined with the design DNA of Genesis – the brand with the Two Lines.

“The livery captures the distinctly Korean character of the brand, with gradients from Magma Orange to dark red emphasising the high temperature of the powertrain.

“The colour gradients from light to dark of the Magma writing in Hangeul is an optical doppler effect that expresses the glorious sound of the V8 twin turbo engine in motion.”

“Today marks a significant milestone for Genesis Magma Racing as we unveil the GMR-001 Hypercar, along with our striking livery and race suits,” added Cyril Abiteboul, team principal of Genesis Magma Racing.

“”As we gear up for our 2026 WEC and 2027 IMSA campaigns, we are not merely assembling a race team; we are forging a legacy.

“Each day brings us one step closer to realising the full potential of Genesis in the world of motorsport.”

Red Bull has chosen to revive its iconic white and red tribute livery to Honda for this weekend’s Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix.

The design celebrates the end of one of the most successful works engine partnerships in F1 history and nods back to Honda’s first-ever GP race winner, the RA272.

“It is quite moving to see the RA272 tribute livery on the latest Red Bull Racing machine, in the final year of Honda and Red Bull’s partnership,” said Koji Watanabe, President of Honda Racing Corporation (HRC). “Our successful path will continue to shine in the history of F1.”

The final day of 2025 F1 testing has begun

The sun finally made a proper appearance on the third and final day of 2025 Formula 1 pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Power cuts and cloudy skies plagued Day 1 of F1’s three-day test in Sakhir, before rain interrupted proceedings on Day 2.

But the sun made a strong comeback on the final morning of testing, much to the delight of the Europeans on location exporting sunnier climates than the wintery chill of home.

The sun was also a boon for the teams and drivers, as more representative weather provides the opportunity for stronger technical insight.

In action on Friday morning was McLaren’s Lando Norris, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, Alpine’s Jack Doohan, Haas’ Oliver Bearman, Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar, Williams’ Alex Albon and Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto.

Rain has halted proceedings in Bahrain during Day 2 of 2025 F1 testing

Rain has put a dampener on proceedings at the Bahrain International Circuit on Day 2 of 2025 Formula 1 pre-season testing.

The Bahrain location has routinely been used for pre-season testing due to its Middle-Eastern climate offering warmer temperatures than the European homes of F1 teams during late February.

But uncharacteristic rainfall resigned several teams to the garages with only Haas and Aston Martin bringing non-dry Pirelli rubber to the test.

Sprinkles of rain were apparent when running commenced at 10:00 local time, but the weather intensified approximately an hour-and-a-half into the four-hour morning session.

Haas brought one set of Intermediates and one more of full Wets, with Aston Martin bringing three sets of Intermediates.

That left the remaining eight teams to watch on as Esteban Ocon took a few laps around the Bahrain circuit on interest.
