Dan Ticktum has stated he is “very, very likely” to remain with Cupra Kiro in Formula E, amid recent speculation regarding his whereabouts next season.

The Briton has enjoyed a career resurgence over the last year, as the previous struggling ERT outfit was bought by the Forest Road investment firm.

Now an American-licensed team, Kiro shedded the minnow status of its previous incarnations, and became genuine contenders, having become a Porsche customer team.

Ticktum finally got the chance to prove his talent in the all-electric championship, and did so with a maiden podium in Tokyo, followed by a maiden victory in Jakarta.

This has led to inevitable speculation that the 26-year-old may be snapped up by a more established team, including Tag Heuer Porsche.

But speaking to Motorsport Week, Ticktum spoke of looking ahead to Season 12, due to kick off on December 6 in Sao Paulo, with the Silverstone-based squad.

“We’ve still got a few things where I think we can improve, but we’re getting the most out of this car, or close to a lot of the time I would say,” he said.

“If we start a bit stronger at the beginning of next year, I think top five in the championship for me would be the goal.”

When asked if his words alluded to firmly remaining with Kiro, Ticktum replied: “Yes. Very, very likely.”

Ticktum has been quick to praise the engineering and mechanical staff with the team over the season, most of whom were already part of the ERT outfit.

Asked if he feels confident in their capability for give him a race-winning car for Season 12, he replied: “Yes, definitely,” adding: “We understand the whole package of the car quite well now.

“Some very talented people in this team. So, short answer, yes.

“I don’t know how next year is going to go until it happens, but I’m obviously more confident going into next year.”

World Endurance Championship driver Mikkel Jensen is to take on the challenge of Formula E in next week’s rookie test at the inaugural Jeddah E-Prix.

The Dane, who has raced for Peugeot TotalEnergies since 2022, has been selected by Cupra Kiro to be its driver to partake in the FP0 session prior to the weekend’s full race programme.

Jensen will arrive in Saudi Arabia fresh from an eighth-place finish for TDS Racing in the LMP2 category at the prestigious Daytona 24 Hours.

After two years of racing in European Formula 3, Jansen began his sportscar career in 2016 in the European Le Mans Series, taking the LMP3 title with Eurointernational in 2019.

He would follow this in 2021 with the LMP2 title in IMSA with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, and has continued to compete in the series alongside his WEC duties, in which he drives the #93 alongside current DS Penske driver and two-time FE World Champion Jean-Eric Vergne.

In a statement released by the American team, Jansen said: “FP0 in Jeddah will mark the first time I’ve driven a single seater racing car since racing in European Formula 3 in 2016, and I’m looking forward to the experience of driving a Formula E car for the first time.

“Formula E has interested me for a while now, and from my time preparing in the simulator, the car feels completely different to anything I’ve experienced before in my career. I would like to thank CUPRA KIRO for giving me this opportunity – I can’t wait to get started.”

Team Principal Alex Hui said: “I’m delighted to welcome Mikkel to Cupra Kiro for Formula E’s upcoming FP0 rookie test in Jeddah.

“Mikkel is one of the best sportscar drivers of our generation and has consistently proven himself across WEC, IMSA, and ELMS in recent seasons.

“Alongside his strong natural instincts, which are important for any racing driver, Mikkel has good technical awareness and understanding, and holds extensive experience working with manufacturers at a World Championship level.

“His perspective and experiences will be important for FP0, which will be crucial to the continued development of our technical package for this season.

“I’m very excited for him to have his first experience of Formula E in Jeddah, and I can’t wait to see what he can do.”

Kiro Race Co has announced a new title sponsor with just days to go before the start of the new FIA Formula E season.

The American outfit has signed a deal with electric vehicle brand Cupra, a former affiliate of ABT, and will now be known as Cupra Kiro.

Part of the Volkswagen Group, the Spanish brand launched in 2018 and has sold over 750,000 cars since.

The organisation continues its forays into motorsport, having developed the world’s first 100% electric touring car – the e-Racer.

Alex Hui, Kiro’s Team Principal, said: “On behalf of Kiro Race Co, I’m delighted to welcome CUPRA as our Co-Title Partner for the 2024/25 season and beyond.

“Our partnership together marks a pivotal moment in our journey, and CUPRA’s bold, performance-driven mentality perfectly complements our ultimate ambition to one day race into history.

“Our story starts this weekend, and we’re looking forward to showcasing what CUPRA KIRO can achieve in São Paulo.”

Former driver Sette Camara joins Nissan

The news comes as former driver – when known as ERT – Sergio Sette Camara has been announced by Nissan as its reserve driver for the coming season.

The Brazilian, who was axed Kiro in favour of Porsche reservist David Beckmann, has found a Formula E reprieve of sorts, bagging himself a backup role with the Japanese marque, who look to embark on a season which they hope will see them challenge the recent status quo of Porsche/Jaguar dominance.

Sette Camara will be the team’s reserve and simulator driver, helping to develop the 4ORCE 05 GEN3 Evo car with Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato in-place as race drivers.

Upon the announcement, the 26-year-old said: “I’m thrilled to join Nissan Formula E Team. It’s always been a goal of mine to work with a big manufacturer in the series, and Nissan took a big step forward in Season 10.

“I believe that, with my experience, I can help the team to keep this momentum going. I’m pleased to become the reserve and simulator driver and contribute to developing the car in the right direction as we enter the GEN3 Evo era.

“I can’t wait to get started and be in attendance at my home E-Prix this weekend with the squad.”
