Lewis Hamilton has dismissed rumours Ferrari could replace Fred Vasseur

Lewis Hamilton has expressed he wouldn’t support Ferrari replacing Formula 1 boss Fred Vasseur, as he labelled the rumours about a possible change as “nonsense”.

Ferrari has experienced a disappointing season to date as no victories across the opening nine rounds have all but dashed the team’s championship chances in 2025.

Having pushed McLaren to the wire last term, the Italian marque goes into this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix a colossal 197 points behind the Woking-based squad.

That has triggered several reports in the Italian media to allege that Ferrari is prepared to dismiss Vasseur unless the side’s prospects improve in the upcoming races.

Ferrari has since quashed the speculation surrounding Vasseur’s role, with Hamilton adamant that he is the right individual to end the squad’s protracted title drought.

“It’s definitely not nice to hear that there are stories like that that are out there,” Hamilton told media including Motorsport Week in Canada.

“Firstly, I love working with Fred. Fred’s the main reason I’m in this team and got the opportunity to be here, which I’m forever grateful for.

“We’re in this together. We’re working hard in the background.

“Things aren’t perfect, but for me, as I said, I’m here to work with the team, but also with Fred. I want Fred here. I do believe Fred is the person to take us to the top.”

Hamilton wouldn’t back Ferrari change

Hamilton, who has reunited with Vasseur having won the GP2 title under his guidance in 2006, vowed that he wouldn’t endorse Ferrari making a management change.

With new technical rules on the horizon in 2026, the seven-time F1 champion stressed that the Frenchman warrants more time with the team that he has constructed.

“Ultimately, it’s nonsense what people have written. Most people don’t know what’s going on in the background,” he continued.

“It isn’t all easy, it’s not like it’s all the smoothest sailing in the background.

“We are having to make changes, and it’s a lot of work to do, and there is, naturally, a lot of pressure because we want to win.

“But that’s (Vasseur being replaced) not any part of the discussion at the moment.

“I don’t think that’s on the cards, as far as I’m aware, and that’s certainly not something that I would be supportive of.

“I mean, embedding new people, new personnel, whether it’s a driver or whether it’s engineers or people who run an organisation, it takes time to adjust, and the impact that has is significant.

“So, yeah, that’s not part of the discussion. I’m here to win with Fred, and he has my full support.”

Hamilton committed to Ferrari deal

Meanwhile, Hamilton also dismissed the notion that his struggles across recent races have prompted him to contemplate spelling a premature end to his Ferrari deal.

“To everyone that’s writing stories of me considering not racing, I literally only just started, my first year here with Ferrari and I’m here for several years,” he added.

“I’m here for the long haul. There is no question about where my head is at and what I’m working towards achieving with this team. There’s zero doubts. So please stop making up stuff.”
